File sharing P2P networks, software, discussion of mp3 and video downloads.

Morpheus seems to be a very popular file sharing program. It is recommended by C|net and others. Some of the main features include parental control, anti-virus integration, and Itunes  integration. Search Neonet Network, Gnutella, BitTorrent, and G2  P2P networks.

Morpheus P2P software also supports anonymous proxies for privacy.

Morpheus Ultra features ad-free downloads and searches.

Peer to Peer Commentary on P2P Software.

The file sharing community has been evolving and adapting to legal challenges for the last 5 years. Kazaa, well known to be a haven for viruses, rootkits, and spyware has been dealt a severe blow by the RIAA with numerous lawsuits.

Napster changed it's venue to stay within legal boundaries and to avoid legal action. It is currently subscription based.

Rhapsody, while not a file sharing site, was purchased by Real.com. Rhapsody was one of my favorite sites for streaming music. In my opinion, Rhapsody was the best streaming site on the internet. Rhapsody has since converted to the subscription based venue.

P2P Related Software and Services.

A Gnutella client, LimeWire is a very popular  peer to peer file-sharing application. It utilizes a Java interface that is fast  and has many features such as a "What's New" button that lists new files that have been recently added to the network. From user opinions, this P2P client seems to provide a more reliable  download experience. Another useful feature is Itunes integration for Windows and Mac users.  The swarm feature allows users to download from multiple hosts for faster file transfers of the same file. The search feature of Limewire allows you to search  for multifle mp3 and video files at the same time. Also, the user interface allows you to conveniently list  files of a certain type e.g. mp3's , videos, ogg, wmv, divx, etc that are on the P2P network. File Sharing and P2P Search Engines Out of Business.

Kazaa, LokiTorrent, Scour, SuperNova, Aimster and the original Napster are companies that have gone out of business or changed their business model as a result of litigation. TorrentSpy, a P2P search engine is accused in a lawsuit filed last year by the MPAA of helping internet users locate illegal copies of movies. Valence media, the parent of TorrentSpy has been served a sopeana to provide user information to the MPAA, TorrentSpy's operators say they would likely move their U.S. systems offshore before complying. Bowing to legal pressure, TorrentSpy agreed this week to prevent their site from linking to copyrighted material. In a typical day, there are 10,000 new torrents indexed on TorrentSpy. This P2P search engine also has a gauge that displays the quality potential downloads. Even after Napster was ordered cease and desist their mp3 file sharing service, online file-sharing continues without abatement. Meanwhile, the MPAA is following in the footsteps of the RIAA by continuing to bring lawsuits against P2P search engines and file-sharing web sites.

My Picks.

uTtorrent: The feature set of other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange.

Small footprint: µTorrent is very efficient. Unlike many torrent clients, it requires a very small amount of system resources - less than 6MB of memory, and is hardly noticeable while active. The size of the program is very small also, which is a single executable less than 220KB.

TorrentSpy Bans US Users :

Under pressure from the MPAA TorrentSpy has barred US users from it's torrent tracking site.

  • The MPAA has filed a civil lawsuit against TorrentSpy
  • They are requesting all records - IP addresses - of United States users.
  • The MPAA is accusing TorrentSpy of violating copyright law.
  • It remains to be seen if the court will force TorrentSpy to turn over these records.
  • The MPAA will probably file suit against users whose IP addresses  have been turned over.

Stay tuned for more developments in the P2P community

The styles used in this web page have been defined so things act as you'd expect, in a predictable, word-processor like manner. If you press return it just moves to the next line and doesn't create an uncontrollable space above or below. To start a new paragraph then press Return twice.
